VOICE STUDENTS -  receive two 45-minute private lessons per week

HARPSICHORD STUDENTS - play in voice studios of distinguished faculty, receive one private lesson per week, plus instruction in coaching singers on baroque repertoire

COACHING - numerous musical coachings per week preparing students for scheduled performances and on personal repertoire

RHETORICAL GESTURE - Classes will walk students through a variety of sources providing an important basis for understanding some aspects of physical gesture commonly used among singers of early opera. Sources include the anonymous treatise, Il corago, Franziskus Lang's Treatise on the Art of Acting, and Gilbert Austin's Treatise on rhetorical delivery. Students will learn to sing while using gesture.

DANCE AND MOVEMENT - classes in European ballroom and theatrical dance of the late 17th and early 18th centuries

LECTURES AND MASTER CLASSES - Faculty will present key topics in performance practice, often aligned with repertoire performed by students. Classes may include the study of treatises, ornamentation, singing recitative, improvisation, dance, art, and poetry. This will also be a time to cover areas relating to entrepreneurship in the field of early music.

LYRIC DICTION - expert Lyric Diction instruction in the languages of the assigned repertoire

PERFORMANCE - Students will perform arias, chamber music, and scenes in 2 public concerts to be accompanied by resident faculty, IBA instrumental students, and professional musicians associated with The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park. The closing performance will focus on staged and choreographed theatrical works.

IBA students prepare and are coached on a well-rounded array of baroque literature encompassing secular and sacred repertoire, including opera. We carefully consider scene casting and instrumentalist assignments to be sure the assignments are appropriate for each student, and we help you expand and work to perfect your audition repertoire with the guidance of our expert faculty.
