Founded in the late 19th century as a vacation resort in Central Florida for Northerners seeking a winter escape, Winter Park, Florida is now a charming city of about 31,000 people. It is located just north of Orlando, within about a 15 minute drive to downtown Orlando’s theater and entertainment areas, about 30 minutes to the Universal Studios parks, 40 minutes to Disney World, and one hour to the Atlantic beaches.
Known as a center for arts and culture, Winter Park is home of the prestigious Bach Festival Society, the fascinating Morse Museum of American Art, and of course, our host institution, Rollins College. With numerous interesting museums, theaters, boat tours, shops, and options for entertainment and relaxation available in both Winter Park and Orlando, there are many options for students to enjoy the area during weekend free time.
Although we work intensively on Mondays through Fridays, the Saturday and Sunday between the first and second weeks of IBA are not scheduled, and are completely free for day trips or relaxation.
