ABOUT MTB

What is MTB? In German, the term Musiktheater incorporates the genres of opera, operetta and musical theater. The combination of these art forms within Musiktheater recognizes that we are all essentially singing stage actors for whom training in voice, acting, dance, movement and song interpretation is valuable.

With this concept at its core, Musiktheater Bavaria offers a culturally enriching, intensive young artist training program in which students choose to study either opera or musical theater .

At MTB you'll work with a focused group of talented, competitively selected singers and pianists and excellent, experienced international teaching faculty who are committed to making the maximum possible impact on your performance and audition readiness. You'll perform and you'll study voice, acting, dance, movement, German, audition skills, working in the German-speaking countries, and more, as you experience life in the beautiful Bavarian Alps.

Our Opera Studio and Musical Theater Studio artists mostly work separately and sometimes together in classes, workshops, master classes and private lessons tailored to their interests. The entire group is always together for meals and social activities. Most are in college or graduate school or are recent graduates, but in the Opera Studio often are also young opera professionals up to about age 30 who are training at MTB in preparation for auditioning in the German-speaking countries or to generally work on their audition skills and aria package. 

Although we work intensively Monday through Friday, weekends (except the initial orientation weekend) are free for travel and relaxation.

Musiktheater Bavaria is designed as a selective young artist program experience for a limited group of about 24 singers and 4 collaborative pianist fellows, with a 3:1 student to full-time faculty ratio that ensures close personal attention to each student.
