THE MUSICAL THEATER STUDIO

Why study Broadway repertoire in Germany? MTB offers a truly excellent training program plus an exciting opportunity to experience a foreign culture. You will learn about opportunities in Europe and make contacts with well-connected musical theater professionals who work in Germany and the UK, as well as New York. Many theaters in the German-speaking countries produce musical theater and hire American musical theater performers. You need to learn to speak some German if you want to audition in Germany, and your MTB German classes can start you on that path.

For many of our students, the goal is New York City or professional regional theatre in other areas. The MTB experience offers intensive overall musical theater training and individual attention in a beautiful Alpine setting. You will:

perform and study abroad in a country with a different language and culture

learn from top teachers with Broadway/NYC and international experience in a supportive, nurturing environment

develop your voice and healthy vocal technique, while also working on all aspects of your performance skills.

MTB's top notch teachers will coach and mentor you to make the biggest possible difference in your individual skill set over the course of the program. We work on contemporary, as well as traditional, songs and scenes at MTB. We consider your input in assigning your performance pieces and work to help you expand and polish your audition repertoire under the guidance of our expert faculty.

THE CURRICULUM

VOICE - six 45-minute private lessons

COACHING - six 45-minute private coaching sessions, plus scenes coaching

DANCE - daily dance classes with an expert MT dance teacher in ballet, jazz, theater dance and tap

ACTING - scene study and workshops

MASTER CLASSES - offered weekly

GERMAN - conversational German instruction 3 times a week

WORKSHOPS - which may include topics such as: Acting through Song, Original Broadway Choreography, Audition Preparation, Working and Living in NYC, Careers in the U.S. and in Europe

PERFORMANCE - perform scenes and selected solos in public concerts

International students are welcome to apply.

(Musical theater students may also attend workshops of the Opera Studio, if they do not conflict with scheduled Musical Theater Studio activities.)
