Today's working opera singer needs to be much more than just a beautiful voice. At MTB you'll develop and refine your voice, movement, acting and overall performance skills, as well as your audition skills. You will perform German-language scenes and study German language and diction while hearing it spoken all around you. Unlike many summer programs located in the German-speaking countries, MTB offers the opportunity to study with faculty who are recognized as top experts in the field of coaching German for singers.

Opera students prepare and are coached on German repertoire at MTB: all opera and operetta scene assignments are in German. (You may bring additional repertoire in other languages to your private coaching and voice lessons, but must work on at least one aria in German. We will be happy to suggest a German operetta or opera aria that is well suited for you, upon request.) We carefully consider scene casting after the Studio's enrollment is completed to be sure the assignments are appropriate for each singer, and we help you expand and work to perfect your audition repertoire with the guidance of our expert faculty.
MTB's summer opera training program also provides you with information about auditioning and working in Germany, including a Q&A session with a German opera agent who will also hear advanced singers. MTB is an excellent way for young artists to make connections and prepare for an audition tour in the German-speaking countries.
(Opera students may also attend workshops of the Musical Theater Studio, if they do not conflict with scheduled Opera Studio activities.)
International students are welcome to apply.
