REQUIREMENTS

FOR OPERA STUDIO AUDITIONS

• Three recently recorded aria or song selections, from opera, operetta, or art song, performed from memory. Please include at least one that is in German (if you are prepared to do so), and please include at least one that is an aria from opera or operetta (not three art songs). If you are an advanced opera student/emerging professional, we would like to hear at least two arias. 

 

FOR MUSICAL THEATER STUDIO AUDITIONS

Singers:

• Two recently recorded musical theater song selections – one up-tempo and one ballad, performed from memory. No 16 bar cuts, please (but you may cut verses of lengthy songs, as desired).
• A monologue, under one minute
• A short dance routine to recorded music, or a dance excerpt recorded from a live performance, with or without singing. (You may include 2 excerpts showing 2 different dance styles, if you wish, but only 1 is required.) Clips should be approximately 1 minute in length.

Dancers:

• Two dance clips (each approximately 1 minute in length) showing 2 different styles of dance (Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Ballet or Hip Hop). Clips should be a short dance routine to recorded music, or 1 clip may be a dance excerpt from a live performance.
• One recently recorded musical theater song, performed from memory – this may be a song, or a song and dance routine or excerpt. (Even if you do not consider yourself much of a singer, we would like to hear you to understand your starting point for the voice lessons offered at MTB. If you do not wish to receive voice training, then MTB is not an appropriate program for you.)
• A monologue, under one minute

Notes for ALL:

• If you have any questions about whether materials you already have recorded are acceptable, please send an email to info@musiktheaterbavaria.org to inquire.
• Please send recent videos that are no more than 6 months old. Singers, please sing your song or aria selections with accompaniment. (Accompaniment tracks are acceptable.)
• The minimum age requirement for singers is that by the time of the program you are at least 19 plus have completed at least one year of college training. Students in the Musical Theater Studio usually are undergraduates or young emerging professionals in their early 20's, and students in the Opera Studio usually are a mix of upper undergraduates, grad students, and emerging professionals up to about age 30.
